Hi GM- I had actually stopped back to post an expansion- it wasn't my intent really to correct you- just post what I remembered. I appreciate the confirmation it is a T-50 top end, that means I have at least one brain cell still functioning.

Text is a funny thing- it can often sound mean or angry when often it isn't meant to be.

I have, frankly learned a lot from your posts. I don't think I've ever posted a thanks for that, now might be a good time.

From what I remember of the T-50, University rated it to "beyond audibility", which was quite true, as 15 khz was not audible from that driver. It's phenolic, as I recall. RCA seems to be the only company that figured how to make phenolic sound like it has decent highs. Though the JBL 2470 one incher wasn't too bad.

I think the way that that thing is built, minor surgery was required to replace the HF. I remember we took them somewhere to be fixed instead of field replacing. AFAIK, the phragms for those are only available NOS. Don't believe anything is still made for them.

But then again, that and a dollar might get you a coffee- at least at White Castle.

As I said, my concern was not correcting you, just list what I thought I remembered.

I see we're still divided by a common language. I didn't take it as a correction nor would I care if you had since when I add 'IIRC' or similar I'm basically 'winging it' anymore as my memory appears to be failing even faster than my body.

Actually, in these cases I tend to just post something out of habit to get the 'ball rolling' since I learned early on reading/posting on the old audio/whatever BBs that nothing gets folks 'off the fence' quicker than someone posting info he believes is either incorrect and/or misleading. I don't mind making a bit of a fool of myself in these sitations if some knowledge is gained, though of course if it's presented in a mean spirited way I'll take issue since there's no excuse for it. Considering the diversity of ethnic? groups here and that it's for the most part unmoderated, this is a fairly polite/pleasant forum with some really supportive folks and I'm thankful for that.

You're welcome! Glad I could contribute to the collective knowledge just as you and many others have also, it's what forums are for, so I offer a round of thanks to all who have contributed. Not trying to multiple 'one-up' you, just you brought up a good point IMO that needed addressing.

Good to know about the rest. I must have deleted my 617 correspondence, so at this point I assume he just used mass quantities of EQ to trade off the excessive wide BW 'bump' in the horn's response to 'extend' its perceived HF limit, though in looking at the polar response it had to be mostly moot up high due to its extreme beaming.

Anyway, maybe some day someone will get some at the right price to experiment without worrying too much about ruining it if things go seriously wrong, but in the meantime Caveat Emptor applies to any driver optimized for PA apps.
